KOMPAN

As a leading provider of outdoor play and fitness solutions, KOMPAN helps create happier and healthier communities.

This mission began more than 50 years ago when co-founder Tom Lindhart installed colorful outdoor sculptures in Denmark. Children began playing on his outdoor art, giving him the idea to merge outdoor play with artistry. In 1970, he joined Hans Mogens Frederiksen to found the company known today as KOMPAN, coming from the Danish word for “companion.”

In the decades that followed, KOMPAN continued to innovate the world of outdoor play and fitness with products designed with superior materials and research-based methods, led by the KOMPAN Play Institute and KOMPAN Fitness Institute. The Institutes’ user-first approach ensures every new product created supports a person’s developmental skills, an inclusive philosophy additionally reflected in the company’s universal design principles.

With third-party verified practices, KOMPAN has significantly reduced its carbon footprint by developing innovative solutions to replace virgin raw materials with recycled alternatives. For instance, KOMPAN’s HDPE panels, Hercules Rope yarn, and TexMade™ posts are made from up to 95% post-consumer recycled waste. This approach minimizes environmental impact by repurposing ocean waste, used textiles, and plastic bags.

KOMPAN’s product range includes the BLOQX™ Climbing panels, which are made from 75% post-consumer recycled waste, and the teal color version incorporates 33% ocean waste. These panels offer a 68% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional virgin plastic products. Additionally, the company’s Robinia wood play and outdoor fitness equipment are FSC® certified, ensuring sustainable, ethical sourcing, and do not require chemical preservatives.

KOMPAN’s innovative TexMade™ posts, made from over 95% post-consumer recycled textile and plastic waste, demonstrate the company’s dedication to reducing environmental impact. These posts offer a 74% reduction in carbon emissions compared to steel posts. Additionally, TexMade™ posts are based on polyolefins, which do not see corrosion like typical metal playground posts, giving them higher durability standards to the harsh elements found in coastal environments.

The company’s commitment to sustainability extends to its rotationally molded components, such as the Supernova, Spinner Bowl, and Tipi Carousel, which are made from 33% recycled waste. KOMPAN also utilizes low-carbon aluminum profiles produced with renewable energy sources, achieving a 56% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional aluminum profiles.
